Local residents are understandably concerned about a new Sutton Council funded drug and alcohol drop in centre planned for Cedar Road, capable of seeing 50 visitors per day.
Councillor Tony Shields said: “Of course drug users need help, but it is in a highly inappropriate place given the residential nature of the area.
“I have tried for more policing and CCTV prior to the April opening, but requests have been ignored. I also met with the Public Health Director who refused to even acknowledge that problems inevitably surround such facilities.
“I detect a pre-emptive code of silence about this place even before it opens its doors. I’ll hold my hands up, I wouldn’t want it in my back yard, and nor would my residents.”
