Sutton residents are being invited to contribute to a crowd-funding project to raise just over £25,000 to re-establish the once-popular traders’ market in Rosehill.
Opportunity Sutton has been assisting the Rosehill Traders Association with the borough's first-ever community-led funding application via the Spacehive crowd-funding website. As part of this, the Association has applied to the Greater London Authority for a grant from the Mayor of London's High Street Fund to part-fund the project.
The Blossoming Rose: Rosehill Traders Market project seeks to bring vibrancy and prosperity back to the Rosehill area by re-establishing the once-popular market to attract shoppers to the area, provide business and local employment opportunities, and help to bring the community together.
It will incentivise local residents to trade by providing 11 uniform market stalls and essential equipment (including one for the only existing market trader) which will be stored locally and rented to traders at low cost.
The funding will also enable the Rosehill Traders Association to subsidise pitch fees for 12 weeks, as well as run an advertising campaign to promote the business opportunities on the market.
Should the crowd-funding appeal be successful, the Rosehill Traders Association hopes to launch the market on 20 November 2015, alongside the Rosehill Christmas Festival and Christmas Lights Switch On. The market will operate weekly and twice-weekly once established.
The crowd-funding deadline is 30 September 2015. To see more about the project, please visit https://spacehive.com/rosehillmarket.
