Following the resignation, and subsequent arrest, of Lib Dem Councillor Alan Salter on fraud allegations, a by-election has been called for the Carshalton Central ward, which will be held tomorrow.
Melissa Pearce is your hardworking local Conservative candidate. Please help her win by voting at your local polling station, The Scout Hall on Westmead Road, Highfield Hall on Carshalton Road, or All Saints School on Rotherfield Road, between 7am - 10pm.
Melissa lives in Carshalton with her husband and two young children. She is an Area Manager for a global civil engineering professional body, and has been inspired to become a Councillor by the passion and dedication of the volunteers that she manages. She is an active member of the local community as a governor at the Harris Junior Academy. As well as her day job, she helps out the Parent Teacher Association at her children’s school, whenever possible, and assists with the children’s liturgy at church.
We have been up against a nasty Lib Dem campaign based on lies and smear. This by-election campaign has shown up issues that residents want answers on, such as the sale of the Lodge in Carshalton at a £1m discount to an organisation linked to the Lib Dem MP, and the incinerator. They have not answered, so we need your help to send a message to the Lib Dems that this is not good enough.
People tell us the council has lost its way - the Lib Dems have had an overwhelming majority for too long and so can push through unpopular decisions and not bother to listen or consult with people. Melissa's campaign has three priorities. First, to hold the Lib Dems to account. Second, to fight to make sure your money is spent properly. In Carshalton, the Lib Dems sold the Lodge at a million-pound discount without considering any other ideas. To do that at the same time as cutting vital youth and waste services is simply wrong. Finally, she loves the area we live in and want to protect it. Pollution from the Beddington incinerator will need monitoring. We must prevent further attempts by the Lib Dems to build on the Green Belt. I will listen to residents and be their voice.
Residents have had to put up with the Lib Dems embarrassing the area for too long. Enough is enough. Vote for a councillor that you can trust tomorrow.
