During Business Questions this week, I asked the Leader of the Commons whether we could have a debate about expanding the role of community pharmacies and ensuring that they have the funding model that reflects the work they do.
This follows on from my ongoing work to support our superb local pharmacies, most recently through a meeting earlier this week with the National Pharmacy Association, as I continue to press the Government to ensure they have the funding they need to continue all that they do for our communities.
The Commons Leader was unequivocal in his support for pharmacies in his response to my question, saying:
"Pharmacies have shown themselves a bedrock of local communities this year. Their doors have remained open and the pharmacists within welcoming and wise. They have been a model of public service, and I commend community pharmacies for the essential work that they have done throughout the pandemic."
I am grateful to him for taking my suggestion away and raising it with the Secretary of State on my behalf.
