Sutton Council are consulting on whether or not to closure Sutton's Youth Centres, which could have a negative impact on the mental health of LGBT+ youth in Sutton if it goes ahead.
Figures from the LGBT+ mental health charity, PACE, have shown that 34% of lesbian, gay and bisexual young people have attempted suicide at least once in their lives, and for young trans people the figure is even worse at 48%.
On 4th November, PACE launched their STOP LGBT Youth Suicide! campaign to highlight this issue and to raise essential funds for our LGBT+ mental health work with vulnerable young people. You can find out more here.
The Sutton LGBT Forum has been successfully running a LGBT youth group with the Sutton Youth Centre, which provides invaluable support for young LGBT+ people in Sutton with often nowhere else to go. The group provides a safe place for them to be able to feel comfortable being who they are without fear of persecution
This is just one of many reasons why it is vital that these services are kept open and running, so please sign this petition to save our youth centres.
