Conservative MP for Sutton and Cheam, Paul Scully, and Conservative Councillor for Cheam, Holly Ramsey, are teaming up with local residents to save the Cheam Village branch of Lloyds Bank.
Residents have organised their own paper petition, which is currently available to sign in several shops in Cheam Village.
Paul and Holly have also launched their own online petition, which they will present, along with the paper version, to Lloyds before the planned closure in April.
In a joint statement, Holly and Paul said, "We beleive this branch should be kept open for several reasons, not just because it is nice to have a branch close to home for Cheam residents. While the Sutton branch may not seem that far away, for the elderly and people with mobility issues, the extra distance can be a huge inconvenience. It is also used by local bussiness based in Cheam Village, who would also be inconvenieced by the disruption caused by having to travel further to go to the bank. The bank is well used and we hope Lloyds will reconsider closing this branch."
