Melissa Pearce, the Conservative Candidate for the Carshalton Central By-Election, has pledged to fight for our green spaces if she is elected on 28th July.
Melissa loves the area that she lives in and one of her priorities is making sure it is protected, whether it be from air pollution from the Beddington incinerator or preserving our green spaces. Sutton’s Lib Dem Council have said they want to build on the Wellfield Grazing Site in Carshalton, home to the Diamond Riding Centre, an excellent local charity which provides horse-riding lessons to disabled children.
Residents were shocked at this decision and many expressed disappointment that the Lib Dem MP and councillors were so reluctant to oppose the plan. Conservative councillors joined the owners of the Diamond Riding Centre in collecting more than 2,500 petition signatures against this proposal. The petition has now been presented to the Council.
Melissa will work with the charity, local residents and Conservative councillors to fight this move and help protect our green spaces from overdevelopment.
