The Sutton Borough Conservative Policy Forum (CPF) would like to invite you to come and debate what values underpin Conservative policies and ideas as well as the deeply-held convictions that drive members’ priorities and underlie the assumptions that influence Conservative attitudes and actions. Our thoughts will help shape the Party and future Conservative Policy Forum (CPF) discussions.

The monthly Conservative pub social will be held directly after the event at the Moon on the Hill so you can catch up with fellow Conservatives and continue the debate in the bar. If you are not yet a member you are also very welcome to become a member by the end of the evening!
The discussion will be led by Matthew Maxwell Scott, Sutton Conservatives Federation Chair and we may break in to smaller groups to get more in depth discussion if appropriate. Attached is a paper for your consideration and these are some of the questions we might discuss:
a. Compile a list of up to a dozen values that your group considers to be Conservative values – the distinctive and enduring core priorities that we should draw on in navigating the challenges of our age.
b. Discuss each of the following Conservative themes and compose a short summary (up to 40 words) of what you understand by each phrase:
• Modern Conservatism
• Compassionate Conservatism
• One Nation Conservatism
• Blue Collar Conservatism
c. In what areas of life, our communities and the country would you say discrimination, division and the need for real equality still persists?
d. Rank the areas that you have identified according to how great a cause for concern you think they are.
e. To what extent do you think it is the responsibility of the Government, of businesses, of charities, of families, of individuals and of
other institutions in society to tackle entrenched
disadvantage and to promote equality in these areas?
f. What Conservative principles do you think should guide the Government’s approach to reforms in the following areas?
• Brexit negotiations
• Social reform
• Political reform
